The terms work and composition are used interchangeably. Any musical composition that has a melody, with or without lyrics, can be considered a work. A single composition can be embodied in several recordings. For example, a live or studio version by the original artist or a cover by another artist are all considered sound recordings of the same work or composition.

The master or sound recording represents the recordings themselves in which the compositions are embodied. Any time a composition is recorded, this creates a new master or sound recording. For example, a cover of a song creates a new sound recording of an existing composition. You can register your works or compositions on our publishing dashboard.
